01What These Terms Cover

mdview is a Markdown viewer for Windows and macOS, published by Shanghai Mingliang Zhiqi Technology Co., Ltd. (上海铭梁智启科技有限公司). It comes in two editions: the free Community Edition and the paid Pro Edition. These Terms apply to the app, to the Site, and to anything you buy from inside the app. By downloading, installing or using mdview, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

These Terms are a legally binding agreement concluded between you and Shanghai Mingliang Zhiqi Technology Co., Ltd. (上海铭梁智启科技有限公司) — the company that owns and operates mdview and the Site, and the seller of every Pro licence. Throughout these Terms, "we", "us", "our" and "the Company" mean that company and nobody else.

02Your Licence

We licence mdview to you; we do not sell it.

• ·Community Edition — free of charge, for as long as you like, including for work. Install it on as many computers as you want.
• ·Pro Edition — a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence for the computer you unlocked. It is a one-time buyout: no subscription, nothing auto-renews, and later Pro updates are included at no extra cost.
• ·You may not resell, sublicense, rent or redistribute the Pro Edition or your activation code, and you may not remove or work around the licence checks. Everything else is fair game: read your own documents, use the app at work, install it on your next laptop too.

03Free Trial & the Community Edition

Reading Markdown is free forever and completely unlimited. Every install also includes 100 free opens with the Pro features — Mermaid diagrams, math formulas and the built-in editors — so you can try Pro on your own documents before paying. When those run out, the app does not lock you out of anything: it shows a prompt, and "Maybe Later" always keeps you reading. The trial exists so that you can decide for yourself whether Pro is worth $9.99.

04Price & Payment

Pro costs a one-time US$9.99 per computer. It is purchased from inside the app: press "Pay with Card" in the Pro dialog and you are taken to a checkout page hosted by Creem, our payment provider. Your card details are entered on their page and never reach mdview or our servers; we only receive what is needed to unlock your copy (an order reference and the device it was paid from). Creem's own terms and privacy policy apply to the transaction.

Your licence is sold to you by Shanghai Mingliang Zhiqi Technology Co., Ltd. (上海铭梁智启科技有限公司), which is the seller of record for every Pro purchase and the party you are contracting with. Creem acts as our payment provider.

Any sales tax or VAT that applies is handled at checkout. If the price changes in the future, the change applies to future purchases only — never to a licence you already own.

05Activation Codes, Reinstalls & New Computers

When you pay inside the app, the computer you paid from unlocks automatically, usually within seconds. Every purchase also comes with an activation code, which is what you use after reinstalling the app or moving to a new computer — open the Pro dialog, choose "Have an activation code?" and enter it. Activating needs a one-time connection to our servers; after that the app works fully offline. Keep the order confirmation email — that is where your code lives. If you lose it, write to us from the address you paid with and we will look it up.

06Refunds

Every Pro purchase comes with a 14-day money-back guarantee: if you are not satisfied for any reason, contact us within 14 days of your purchase and we will refund the full amount to your original payment method, no questions asked. You also get 100 free Pro opens precisely so that you can try the paid features on your own documents before paying anything.

A reversed payment — whether a refund we issued or a chargeback — deactivates the unlock it bought. The full rules are on the Refund Policy page, which forms part of these Terms.

07Your Files & Your Content

Your documents are yours. mdview reads them on your own computer, renders them in a local window and never uploads them anywhere — we have no way to see, store or use your files, and we claim no rights over them. Because everything happens on your machine, keeping backups is up to you: if a file is damaged or lost while you are editing it, we cannot recover it for you.

08Acceptable Use

Please use mdview lawfully and do not use it to harm anyone. In particular, do not:

• ·share, publish or resell activation codes you did not pay for;
• ·redistribute the Pro Edition outside the official download pages and GitHub releases;
• ·remove, disable or work around the licence, trial or update checks;
• ·reverse-engineer or decompile the app, except where the law explicitly allows it;
• ·attack, overload or probe our payment, activation or update servers.

If a code or a device is clearly being abused, we may deactivate it — and if that happens to you by mistake, tell us and we will fix it.

09Third-Party Components & Services

mdview is built on open-source libraries — the Markdown parser, syntax highlighting, Mermaid, KaTeX and others — whose licences are acknowledged in the app and its repository; those licences govern those components, and nothing in these Terms restricts the rights they grant you. A handful of jobs are handled by third parties: Creem processes payments, GitHub and Cloudflare host downloads and this Site, and our own servers handle update checks and activation. Each of them has its own terms, and we are not responsible for their acts or omissions.

10Updates & Online Services

The app can check for updates and download new versions of mdview and of optional rendering engines (the Mermaid and math engines, for example), from our servers or GitHub. Updates may add, change or remove features over time; we try hard never to break something you rely on, but we cannot promise that every feature will exist in every future version. The app itself works offline — a connection is only needed for updates, for activating a code and for the trial bookkeeping. Those online services are provided on a best-effort basis and may be interrupted for maintenance or retired one day; a licence you have already bought keeps working on the computer it was unlocked on.

11No Warranty

mdview is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be error-free, that every document, diagram or formula will render exactly as you expect, or that exported PDFs will match another program's output. Check anything important before you rely on it.

12Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Shanghai Mingliang Zhiqi Technology Co., Ltd. (上海铭梁智启科技有限公司) is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits, lost data or business interruption, arising out of your use of — or inability to use — the app or the Site. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you actually paid us for it, which for the Community Edition is nothing. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit.

13Privacy

We collect as little as possible. The app itself gathers no personal data; what the Site and the purchase, activation and update paths handle is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

14Termination

You may stop using mdview whenever you like; uninstalling it ends these Terms for you. We may deactivate a licence or an activation code if these Terms are broken — for example by redistributing Pro or sharing codes. The sections that by their nature should outlive the agreement (licence restrictions, disclaimers, liability limits and governing law) survive termination. If we ever discontinue the app altogether, the copies you already have keep working.

15Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms as the app evolves. A revised version will be posted on this page with a new effective date, and continuing to use mdview after that means you accept it. If you do not accept a change, stop using the app — a licence you have already bought keeps working on the computer it was unlocked on.

16Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the People's Republic of China, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and disputes will be heard by the competent courts at our principal place of business. If you are a consumer, the mandatory consumer-protection rules of your own country still apply and you may be entitled to bring proceedings there.
